I Recommend a Double Espresso and a NoDoz

Greetings from the Heartland! I had a nice long vacation from reviewing, so hopefully I can get back into the swing of things after digesting the metric ton of turkey, dressing, and pumpkin pie...

Anyway, on deck today is Recommended, a computer geek's wet dream...I guess (since that kind of stuff usually just flies right over my head). To briefly summerize the author's about page, it's a "virtual gallery of ideas, an online showcase of beautiful applications, a collection of curiosities, a vast archive of links and it is my playground. Recommended is a service by its own rules. What is contained in this blog can be interesting, informative, useful, helpful, funny, cool, unique, weird, gross and even boring. It is up to you to discover something you like and take it home." Uh, OK, I guess I get it...basically the author (I'm going to assume it's a she) dicks around on the internet and posts about what she finds on this blog...how novel. A lot of the stuff she finds would be mildly useful, others just seem plain useless (the RSS news map as a blog header? WTF? Seriously, no.). But that's neither here nor there, since she already admits that some of the stuff she finds may hold no interest to the reader. Either way, I found much of the content boring, but tech geeks might dig on it. Furthermore, she has this whole deal about Rent My Blog Code of Conduct that caused my eyes to glaze over. Get over it, it's BlogExplosion, not the Geneva Convention...

As for the template, I really dig on that pull down stuff. Seriously, I want to hump it. I also found the header picture super cute in a retro-kitsch, advertise-y sort of way. Everything looks a little squished in IE, but it looks great in FF (her prefered browser) and everything's pretty organized. The archives seriously pissed me off. The posts are all rolled up so you have to click on the title to see if it's something you're interested in reading or you have to click the previous posts link at the bottom of the page. Sorry, I'm not going to work that hard to read old shit.
In all, I give her a for a pretty inoffensive blog that is mildly interesting at times, but not something I would particularly care to visit all that often.
And a for your archive business...

  1. I still don't really get this "Rent My Blog" thing, but I do find going out of your way to write a "Code Of Conduct" for it [in terrible legalese, might I add] is hilarious. Maybe there's a whole market of individuals who want to write codes of conduct for blog shit, and maybe I can provide my legal services for the standard $50 an hour to write these legally non-binding pointless amasses of drivel. I smell opportunity.

Template organization wise, it's a dream come true. Content wise? Well, I should say thank you to her for putting me over that proverbial edge and leading me to close my office door, lock it, curl up on the board room table in my office, and pass the fuck out for forty minutes.

Minus the wrist watch imprint on my cheek, I don't think anyone can tell!
