It's Not Exactly Slap-Worthy

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen...mmmm. Vixen.

Yeah. I loves me some Vixen.

So, today, I have a genuinely "nice" blog to review. It's SeaBird Chronicles, and it's run by a stay-at-home Mom named Laura. I will preface this review by saying the following: In no way is this blog's content something that *I* would read on a daily basis, because A. I'm a dude. B. I don't have kids. However, I like this blog for a lot of reasons.

First, the template is spanking good. I'm not much for blog ads, personally, but it's not loaded with them, so I'll forgive that intrusion into my life. The sidebar on the main blog is mercifully short, so that's also a positive. She also has a nice page progression at the bottom of the screen, and doesn't clutter up her page with a million posts that are a pain to scroll through.

Second, it's not hard to tell that this is a mommy-blog right from the jump. That's a good thing, if you're on an agenda in terms of your theme, let people know what it is right from the get-go and you'll find that your readers will keep coming back. The background is white, the text is black, and the header is centered, colorful and not intrusive. She has an "About Me" page, an Archives link, and various other ways to get to know her which are all click-through.

I like the post on how people have gotten to her site over the last month, and I like the idea that I can't find any of the stupid blog-fads that seem to populate ad infinitum across the blogosphere.

I don't really have any recommendations for improvement, per se. She doesn't seem to be overly verbose, which is good. Most average blog-readers will not read more than three or four paragraphs anyway. The blog is organized, it's about what she says it's about, and it's a clean look. I could see a splash of color adding to the overall oeuvre of the site, but the white background/black text is pleasing to most of us. Content-wise, again, it's not my thing, but I'm a dirty, foul man (meant to say that I enjoy...er...saltier content...yeah...that's what I meant). Laura clearly has her priorities in order with this blog. Well done.

Enjoy your week, my friends. Stop back every day for fresh heapings of fun.

  1. I loved the christmas post about the sheep/cow. I've soooooo been there, done that. Herding toddlers is such a challenge.

  3. Ballsy One, you dirty, foul man...I'm with you on the saltier content. Also, she should swear more. Then again, I tend to think everybody'd be better off if they just dropped more f-bombs.

Not really a blog I'd frequent, but I'm diggin' how she keeps the posts short and on point.
