I'm a horsey girl

Bet you didn't know that about me, but it's true. I rodeoed and did 4-H for years. And, there is something very basic about horsey girls. For the most part, we aren't princesses, we're just good wholesome girls who aren't afraid to get a little dirty.

How's that for an introduction to Katie's blog?

The template is basic, very very basic, but it's in wordpress so I can't help that much (I'm a blogger template geek). The template is pretty blah, but inoffensive for the most part. It doesn't really frame these posts or provide a lot of personality. It's just there. At least it is clean. However, there is something wonky about the date on each post. For starters, it needs to have 5 px margin on the left side of the date away from the text of the posts. Secondly, it needs to be reversed (IMHO) to be month/day versus day/month. I suspect it is a template developed by a European, and they often have weird little quirks like that.

Katie, you have a navigation bar up top, so use it. Put your blog roll behind a tab button the way you have your "about katie." Get rid of the calendar since you have an archive list, and consider doing a drop-down archive. When you've been blogging for 3 or 4 years, it won't all fit in your sidebar. Consider making the font size on your header slightly larger, especially the secondary quote, which is the size of nuclear ant poo.

Also, it is, "The longer the waiting, (comma) the sweeter the kiss." (No ellipses in this context, you're too old for that shyte).

THANK YOU FOR NOT CLUTTERING UP YOUR SIDEBAR. xoxoxoxoxox.

Yes, I am a grammar nazi at times, even though I still can't spell pretentious. Or Pretensious. Ah, fuck it.

The writing is sweet, charming, and I like it. It's not dirty. It's not tawdry. But, in a way, I find it kind of endearing that it isn't. So, don't change. I like the variety of subjects that you write on, I like the voice you've found for yourself, and I like the uniform lengths of your posts. They are very readable, and I don't hate them.

This is not the best blog I've ever read, but it's far from the worst. I give you:

Well done, Katie. Just keep writing and work on that wonkie template, aight?

p.s. Dear readers, you're in luck. This blog review is all sweetness and light, but there is hate below. Keep scrolling. Today is a two-fer.

  1. You have no idea how long I've been waiting for someone to use "nuclear ant poo" as a gauge for font-size.

    Thank you.

  2. Decent writing, pleasant sentence structure, and she seems quite charming, what with the whole figuring it all out thing.

    Good call.

  4. Jobber: It's a gift, what can I say?

Hahn: Yes, she is charming, and I can't resist that in a 20-something girl. It's nice to know they aren't all Britneys.

Katie: Darlin', it was a pleasure to review your blog. :)

  5. I actually read her on a regular basis, but I can't comment because I'm not a Wordpress user and it's annoying and makes me feel like a voyeur.

She's pretty fantastic if you ask me.

  7. Steve, steve, steve, we all know you're a voyeur. We all are. That's why we do what we do.

Admitting it is the halfway point to becoming a full-blown stalker.

  8. I admit it.

(Which totally doesn't count because I've known Katie since she was a wee lass.)

    Great review, Bites. :)
